Celebrating 140 Years!

Posted by Nicole Doud on

Join us in celebrating 140 years as America’s Oldest Grocery Store! We are proud to serve the community of Mackinac Island.

Doud’s Market opened in 1884 by brothers Patrick and James Doud. The initial Doud’s Market was located where the current Starline Dock is today. Due to a devastating fire, Doud’s Market located to its current location on the corner of Main Street, next to Marquette Park.

The Doud Family has been an integral part of the history of Mackinac Island - Patrick Doud, which Patrick Doud’s Irish Pub is named after - was an island carpenter who had involvement in many significant buildings on Mackinac today.

Andrew Doud, the 4th generation owner of Doud’s Market took ownership in 2007. Before taking ownership, Doud’s Market was called Doud’s Mercantile.

Doud’s Market is proud to be part of so many family picnics and memories while you and your family spend their days on Mackinac Island. A past blog post here: https://www.doudsmarket.com/blogs/news/mackinac-island-favorites-1 highlights our favorite picnic spots, bike trails and more if you need new ideas of things to do while on Mackinac!

We love to read the reviews that customers leave us - our deli has been called a “gem”, a great selection, reasonable prices, and more! If you want to leave us a review of how Doud’s Market has helped you make great memories on Mackinac, head to Google.com and type in Doud’s Market!

We look forward to celebrating in fun ways our 140th birthday - and look forward to many more years as your Mackinac Island grocer.
