Mackinac Island Favorites

Posted by Nicole Doud on

As you’re starting to plan your 2022 Mackinac Island vacation, here are a few of our Mackinac Island favorites!
Picnic Spots: A classic picnic is the perfect outing for a family or a group of friends visiting the island! Some of the best places for picnics include: Marquette Park or Windermere Point! Doud’s Market has all the perfect picnic essentials to make your meal special and tasty! If you decide to eat at Windermere Point, you can always grab food from the Dog House which has delicious hot dogs and hamburgers!
Bike Rides: A favorite bike ride on the island includes Leslie Avenue that begins near Arch Rock. It winds through the east side of the island through the trees. This bike ride is filled with small ups and downs which makes you feel so alive as you fly down the small hills overlooking the lake! When you get to the end, you will see the Mackinac Island Airport! This is a great spot for a little break before biking back into town.
Family Activities: There is always something to do for the kids on Mackinac! Whether it’s skipping rocks along the boardwalk, flying kites at Windermere Point, visiting the Mackinac Island Library, playing on the playgrounds (there are two - one at Marquette Park and one at the school!), making a trip to Fort Mackinac, The Butterfly House or just strolling through town. The options are endless for you and your kids to enjoy!
Sunset Spot: Looking for a romantic place to watch the sunset? A few options include: walking along the boardwalk, British Landing, the porch at the Grand Hotel and Sunset Rock, which is located behind the Inn at Stonecliffe.
Hidden Gem: Looking for a spot that isn’t overly visited? Visit Anne’s Tablet! If you walk up the stairs behind Ste. Anne’s Church to the East Bluff and turn left, you will find a trail that leads you to Anne’s Tablet, which is a small, quiet area that overlooks downtown, the bridge and the marina. It is absolutely stunning!
Places to Stay: If you’re coming for a longer amount of time, consider staying at Above Mackinac Condos, located above Doud’s Market and Good Day Cafe. The condos offer full kitchens and make a great spot for a larger family or group of friends. If you are just coming for a few nights, we love the newer boutique hotel on Market Street, The Mackinac House!
No matter where your Mackinac Island adventures take you, we know you will have an amazing visit during this upcoming season! We can’t wait to see you when you stop into Doud’s Market, America's Oldest Grocery Store!
