Picnic Spots on Mackinac Island

Posted by Nicole Doud on

When visiting Mackinac Island, there are so many different options of things to do, places to visit and restaurants to eat at! If you’ve been more than once, you usually have a list of your favorite places to visit and stop by.

If you’re a local, work on the island for the season, or have visited enough times, then you know what we’re going to say is a local favorite: a picnic lunch from Doud’s Market.

Doud’s Market has a full service deli at the back of the store. The meat at the deli is sliced daily and then made into the perfect sub or sandwich for your picnic!

If sandwiches don’t interest you for your picnic, you can also stop in to grab pizza made by the slice. Feeding a crowd? Call ahead and order a pizza made just for you! We have seven different options, including a few unique combos including Superior Pizza and the Boater’s Special.  Our pizzas are all one size or you can grab pizza by the slice.

Once you’ve picked out your main entree, don’t forget to grab a salad. We have lettuce salads, potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad and so much more. Then, swing on by the bakery case to see what is available for a tasty treat! We personally think that the cinnamon rolls are the best, but to have those you have to arrive early!

After gathering all the perfect provisions for your picnic, it’s time to pick the perfect spot.

Here are a few of our favorite picnic spots:

Marquette Park: Marquette Park is the perfect place to sit and people watch. During the summer, Music in the Park happens almost every Thursday evening, which is fun to have a picnic while listening to the talented musicians. If you face the marina, you can watch boats come and go, along with watching the bikers and carriages go up and down Main Street.

Arch Rock: If you want to head out of town a little bit, head to Arch Rock for a hike up 240 steps to the top for beautiful views and the perfect spot to take a break while biking around the island!

Sugar Loaf Rock: Sugar Loaf Rock sometimes gets missed, but it’s a great place for a more quiet spot for your picnic. Located past Arch Rock, off Rifle Range Road, this is a 75 foot tower of rock that is a spot to mark off the list if you’ve never seen it!

British Landing: British Landing is halfway around the island if you’re biking or walking around the entire island. There is a rocky beach here, along with picnic tables if you want to take a break and enjoy your picnic here.

Great Turtle Park: Great Turtle park is located in the middle of the island in Harrisonville. Great Turtle Park has soccer fields, sand volleyball court, basketball court, softball field, disc gold course and a pavilion with a fireplace and seasonal bathrooms. If you’ve never been up to Great Turtle Park, head up for a new spot to check out - it’s worth the walk!

Next time you’re on the island, stop in to check out the deli menu and then take off on the perfect picnic adventure!
